Finance Manager at Third Rock Ventures

Well established and highly respected early-stage Venture Capital Firm with over $1.9 B in assets under management across 4 active funds (and 5th launching in 2019) is looking for a Finance Manager. Third Rock Ventures keeps almost all work in house, so the Finance Manager will have various responsibilities across accounting, finance, tax and investor relation functions, in addition to exposure to Management Company and General Partner entities. The Finance Manager will report to the Vice President of Finance and the Director of Finance and will help manage the team.

Responsibilities:

Funds:
• Review quarterly fund close schedules and financial statements
• Coordinate the annual audit and tax process including the issuance of K-1’s for all Funds
• Review capital call and distribution (cash and stock) allocations, notices and related entries on the general ledger
     ○ Distributions will be a large part of this role
• Work with the finance team and investment professionals to prepare year end documentation for portfolio company valuations in conjunction with ASC 820
• Manage general ledger and reporting information for the funds and management company
• Assist in General Partner entity related work such as capital account preparation and carry analysis
• Help manage cash and assist in the treasury functions for the funds
• Work with the rest of the finance team to implement best practices across the finance and accounting functions
• Ad hoc finance/accounting projects as needed

Tax:
• Help coordinate the preparation and filing of all federal, state and local returns with the rest of the finance team and external accounting firm
• Review tax allocation schedules (Limited Partners, General Partners and Management Company) which are prepared and reviewed internally before provided to external accounting firm

Management Company and Seed Companies:
• General exposure to these areas as needed

Requirements:

• 6-8 years of related work experience; mix of public and private experience preferred
• Partnership tax experience is a plus
• CPA is preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Excellent accounting and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Entrepreneurial mindset and desire to work in small business environment
• Sense of urgency and intellectual curiosity
• Desire to help maintain a best in class accounting/finance team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of management
• Ability to establish and meet deadlines, work under pressure well and handle multiple priorities – you will be involved in all aspects of the business
• Interest in Life Science industry

Preferred Experience:
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and proven experience with understanding and maintaining complex workbooks/financial models
• Proficiency with Investran and Quickbooks is beneficial, but not necessary
