Position Overview & Responsibilities

At Decibel Therapeutics, we are driven by the vision "to create a world in which the benefits and joys of hearing are available to all." We are currently looking for a research associate to join our histology team. The successful candidate will work under supervision of senior scientists and will be part of a team responsible for conducting tissue preparations and immunohistochemistry. The Research Associate will work closely with colleagues in platform development, biology, and pharmacology. In addition, the Research Associate will be responsible for restocking lab supplies and maintaining lab equipment. Core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct whole body perfusion and collect tissue for histological analysis
  • Micro dissect and process inner ear tissues
  • Perform immunohistochemistry staining protocols
  • Image and quantify histological studies
  • Order and stock laboratory with reagents and histology consumables
  • Maintain and implement good laboratory practices, including accurate record-keeping
  • Interact with various project teams to share and distribute information
  • Work as part of a team, regularly collaborating on tasks and communicating results


  • Experience in immunohistochemistry and histology
  • Prior experience in paraffin-, cryo- and/or resin sectioning
  • BS and/or MS in biological sciences or related discipline with more than 1 year of laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Independent and self-motivated with outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Additional Desirable Experience

  • Experience in image analysis will be an advantage
  • Experience with widefield and/or confocal microscopy
  • Prior experience in histology assay development
  • Experience with surgery and/or micro dissection preferred
