Position Overview

Pliant is seeking talented and highly motivated individuals with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry to join our medicinal chemistry team in the pursuit of novel small molecules to treat fibrotic disease. The successful candidate will design and synthesize novel chemical entities optimized for potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetics and in vivo efficacy.

Responsibilities:

Plan and execute the synthesis, purification, and characterization of complex small molecules.
Integrate and utilize modern medicinal chemistry principles and tools, including structure based drug design.
Advance drug discovery programs by interacting with other chemists, biologists and external collaborators to understand and optimize DMPK and in vitro and in vivo pharmacological properties.
Contribute effectively to patent, report and scientific publication writing.
Execute inventive contributions towards new chemical target structures, and employ sound judgment in the evaluation and strategic decision making around early screening or literature hits.
May have the opportunity to manage one or more Research Associates.
Desired Skills and Experience:

PhD. in synthetic organic chemistry or equivalent.
Structure-based drug design experience preferred.
At least 3-10 years industry experience strongly preferred.
High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic problem solving skills.
Excellent scientific expertise in organic synthesis, conversant with the current literature.
Ability to champion the chemistry efforts into new directions to achieve project milestones.
Strong evidence of conceptual thinking, active follow through and vigorous scientific curiosity.
Proven ability to work well with others in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
