Senior Scientist, Biology, Oncology Small Molecule Drug Discovery at Relay Therapeutics

Position Summary:

We are seeking a creative and self-motivated PhD scientist to join a dynamic team leading the discovery of novel small molecule therapeutics in oncology. The ideal candidate will combine an extensive knowledge of cancer biology with experience in small molecule drug discovery to lead projects from exploratory stages to clinical development. They will oversee the development of pre-clinical models, evaluation and progression of candidate small molecules, development of translational medicine strategies, and management of Research Associates. We seek team players with the ability to excel in multidisciplinary team settings.

Job Responsibilities:

Play a leading role in the biological evaluation of small molecule modulators of clinically relevant targets in cancer, including opportunities for project team leadership
Independently design and oversee experiments including the development of cellular and molecular assays to support drug discovery, establishment of pre-clinical models, and evaluation of candidate molecules
Lead translational research experiments including the evaluation of pharmacodynamic activity and patient selection hypotheses, establishment of biomarker assays, and development of translational medicine plans
Manage one or more Research Associates
Collaborate with pharmacologists to assess activity in in vivo models
Interpret, summarize and present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings/conferences
Proactively review literature to bring in the newest scientific findings, ideas, and methods/technologies to impact drug discovery projects
Qualifications:

Ph.D and post-doctoral training in Cancer Biology with demonstrated experience in oncology small molecule drug discovery
Minimum of 3 years in biotech/ pharma required
Proven track record of excellence as evidenced by high impact, peer reviewed publications and/ or patents
Leadership experience and the ability to coach and mentor direct reports
Capability to work within a dynamic matrix environment, with strong contribution to project strategies and progression
Excellent communication, presentation, and inter-personal skills; superb organizational and problem-solving skills
