Position Overview

Pliant is seeking a talented, self-motivated and experienced Medicinal Chemist to be an integral member of our highly motivated research team to make significant contributions to therapeutic development.

Job Description

The Associate Director/Director of Medicinal Chemistry will direct and lead the overall medicinal chemistry efforts to support therapeutic development. Concrete responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Designing and overseeing synthesis of novel chemical entities aimed to optimize potency, specificity, pharmacokinetics and in vivo efficacy

• Building the Company’s compound pipeline and structure-activity relationships

• Leading interdisciplinary project teams and working with a team of scientists to advance compounds through discovery and select development candidates

• Establishing relationships, contracts and overseeing activities at partner CROs


• Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with a minimum of 8 years of medicinal chemistry experience in the pharmaceutical industry

• Hands-on experience in and a proven track record of successfully designing and synthesizing novel small molecule therapies

• Comprehensive knowledge in the current practice and literature of medicinal chemistry

• Strong appreciation of structure-based design and computational modeling, physicochemical properties, ADME and preclinical toxicology, and molecular and cellular biology

• Experience in leading and managing discovery and early development projects

• Effective oral and written communication with peers and people in other functional areas

• Experience in outsourcing and managing CRO and the ability to work independently and in a dynamic team environment are a plus
