Position Summary

Neon Therapeutics is seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join a growing and dynamic team. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will primarily be responsible for day-to-day operations of the Finance department, including financial statement close processes (preparation of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations), accounts payable operations, and payroll related tasks.

A successful candidate will be detail-oriented and highly motivated with strong organizational and communication skills, while demonstrating an ability to multi-task while delivering high quality work. They should be able to provide these services in an effective and efficient manner to ensure that the Company’s finances are accurate, that vendors and suppliers are paid within established guidelines, and that payroll is processed on time and accurately.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Perform day-to-day Accounts Payable functions, including timely and accurate posting of invoices into the accounting system, vendor management, and the preparation of vendor payments, including weekly check runs;
Manage the payroll process, including regular and special payrolls, work closely with HR to ensure timely and accurate changes to payroll, and reconciling payroll to the general ledger;
Responsible for aspects of the close and financial reporting processes
Correspond with other departments to ensure proper accounting for purchases and expenses;
Responsible for balance sheet reconciliations and analyses related to the Company’s cash and investment accounts, as well as fixed assets, prepaids, accounts payable, and other accounts as appropriate;
Support potential systems implementations and upgrades, including ERP, HRIS, and Payroll;
Assist with financial and tax audits & reviews;
Other tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned.
Experience and essential skills:

Bachelors or equivalent degree in accounting, CPA or candidate seeking CPA certification preferred;
2-4 years of experience in public accounting or private industry, life sciences/biotech industry preferred;
Knowledge of US GAAP and relevant accounting and financial concepts;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with all levels of the organizational;
Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment;
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills;
Must be able to manage work load and prioritize as necessary to meet deadlines while exhibiting a strong attention to detail;
Experience using accounting ERP and payroll systems preferred;
Must be able to work cross-functionally while contributing positively to the Company culture;
Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Word.
