The opportunity
Do you want to help tell the story of Relay? Do you enjoy shaping communications strategy and messaging? I mean, really enjoy thinking about them and putting new ideas forward.  Do you read or watch media coverage and get curious about how it came to be and wonder how it could be improved? Do you thrive in a rapidly changing environment? If so, we may have just the opportunity for you to build our Communications & Investor Relations function.
You’ll be responsible for creating Relay’s communication strategy encompassing all channels and public affairs including public and investor relations.  You will play a key role in crafting and shaping the Relay investment story for investors.  As a key spokesperson for Relay, we’ll look to you to engage with the investment community to ensure a sound understanding of our company fundamentals.

Your role

    • You’ll lead Relay’s communications and investor relations efforts.  You’ll work collaboratively to understand Relay’s strategy and objectives to develop and drive execution of a corporate communications and investor relations strategy. 
    • You will serve as communications counselor to senior leadership team on external communications activities.
    • As you dive in, we’ll rely on you to develop an annual corporate communications plan and calendar encompassing key clinical and regulatory achievements, medical meeting presentations, publication plans and investor relations roadshows and conference. As you and Relay continue to grow, you’ll assess our company, peer group, and industry factors to develop materials for quarterly and annual reporting and special announcements, including key messages, presentations, conference call scripts, Q&As, press releases and briefing information.  Further out, we envision you helping to build a longer-term corporate affairs function including government relations and corporate brand strategy.
    • Build and handle vendor management including hiring and leading investor relations and public relations agencies in support of graphic design and corporate materials.
    • In partnership with HR, create practical procedures for internal communications and alignment across functions.
    • You will lead development of all strategic external communications plans and deliverables for Relay and serve as a corporate spokesperson.

    • Not afraid to roll up your sleeves, you’re perfectly poised jumping in to handle a wide variety of tasks, which could range from translating strategy to action, talking shop with a Wall Street analyst, to loading paper in the copy machine. 
    • You have a knack for communicating complex issues in a simple, elegant way and for orchestrating plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.

You also have

    • A bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
    • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry, preferably in-house. 
    • Demonstrated skill and comfort in actively forming relationships with top tier influencers, and successfully positioning subject matter to achieve high-impact placements that enhance corporate brand and reputations.
    • Proven experience and leadership in running a comprehensive strategic communications programs to advance the organizations vision, mission, values, and strategic objectives.
    • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry, the scientific and regulatory environment in this field, as well as a good understanding of the public policy challenges currently affecting the industry.
