Scientist / Senior Scientist, Biochemistry/Biophysics at Relay Therapeutics
Cambridge, MA, US

Our company was founded on the premise that protein motion can be used to build breakthrough medicines. The team at Relay is putting this principle into practice, with the aim of accelerating the development of medicines that will make a transformative difference in patients’ lives. We don't just stare hard problems in the face. We go out looking for them. Are you energized by attempting to do the impossible? We're looking for you.

At Relay, our team is energized by the ultimate collaboration between chemistry, computation, and biochemistry & biophysics. Putting protein motion at the heart of drug discovery is a challenge, but we are confident that our team’s dedication and urgency will create opportunities that deeply impact the lives of the patients. We're building a company for the ages. Are you ready to #jointherelay?

The opportunity

    • We are looking for a self-motivated PhD scientist to join our Biochemistry, Biophysics and Structural Biology team. We are applying state of the art technology towards the discovery, characterization and optimization of small molecule therapeutics towards targets representing high unmet medical needs.

    • As a creative and collaborative scientist, you'll lead biochemistry and biophysics efforts within project teams to generate target modulation hypotheses, evaluate small molecule inhibitors and their mechanism of action, and assist in crafting overall project team goals and strategies.

Your role

    • You’ll serve as a biochemistry/biophysics lead on project teams leveraging insights in protein motion to drive drug discovery for clinically important targets in cancer

    • You will lead design and development of biochemical and biophysical assays to characterize enzymes, substrates, and multi-protein complexes and assess mechanism and small molecule modulation of cancer targets, including hit identification, validation and optimization

    • You can expect that analysis, interpretation, documentation and presentation of data to senior leadership and project teams will be part of your day

    • We’ll depend on you to assess, adopt and implement new technologies and experimental techniques that will improve and enable drug discovery

    • You will help us stay connected to our community by attending external scientific meetings/conferences and share and present your findings to internal team members

    • Your voice is important. We’ll count on you to contribute to group knowledge and expertise through collaboration and idea exchange with multidisciplinary teams

Your background

    • You earned a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Enzymology or a related discipline

    • You have spent at least 3 years gaining relevant industry or postdoctoral experience

    • You have a keen understanding of protein function and enzyme mechanism. You also have experience developing and handling biochemical and biophysical assay development for protein target and small molecule inhibitor characterizations as well as protein-ligand binding interactions

    • You're an articulate, open communicator with the ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear manner.

    • You have an interest in contributing to medicinal chemistry drug discovery efforts to evaluate compound SAR and mode of action characterization

    • You are scientifically curious and have demonstrated a willingness to evolve with new technologies and drug discovery approaches

    • You have a track record of scientific excellence as reflected by high impact, peer reviewed publications and/or patents

At Relay, we believe that along with our scientists, our culture is our greatest asset. In fact we're proud to share we were named as one of the Boston Business Journal's "Top Places to Work" in 2017 & 2018. To drive that culture, no one will stop you or hold you back. Instead, we will give you the tools and colleagues to push forward relentlessly and cheer you on as you go. If this resonates with you, drop us a line.
