Position Overview and Responsibilities:
As a Systems Biologist at Decibel, you will be expected to work as part of an integrated team that develops and utilizes platform genomics tools to accelerate drug discovery for the inner ear. Core responsibilities include:

  • FACS- and microfluidics-based collection of single cells for single-cell RNA-Seq
  • Preparation single-cell and next generation sequencing libraries
  • Assistance with sequencing read alignment and bioinformatics analyses
  • Tissue dissociation, cell fractionation, and isolation of subcellular components
  • Development of new protocols and assays
  • Timely execution of experiments with careful documentation and reporting to Programs
  • General molecular biology experiments, particularly DNA, RNA, and protein isolation
  • Isolation and preparation of protein for proteomics analysis
  • RT-PCR and qPCR
  • Cell culture
  • Inner ear dissection and organ culture
  • Microscopy



  • B.S. in genomics, neurobiology, bioengineering, molecular and/or cell biology with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Significant hands-on experience with:
    • Single-cell RNA-Seq protocols and methodology
    • Preparation of libraries for next generation sequencing
    • Molecular biology techniques, RT-PCR, and qPCR
    • Tissue dissection and dissociation
    • Widefield and confocal microscopy
  • Working knowledge of FACS, proteomics techniques, and bioinformatics
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be productive in a fast-paced, team-work, multi-task environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Preference given to candidates with detailed familiarity of inner ear biology
