Computational Chemist at Relay Therapeutics
Cambridge, MA, US
Relay Therapeutics is a new breed of company at the intersection of computation and biotechnology that is committed to creating medicines that will have a transformative impact on patients.

We combine unprecedented computational power with leading-edge experimental approaches across the fields of structural biology, biophysics, chemistry and biology. This integration illuminates – for the first time – the full mobility of a protein and provides key insights into how the dynamic nature of a protein’s conformation regulates function. The team at Relay is putting this principle into practice, with the aim of accelerating the development of medicines that will make a transformative difference in patients’ lives. We don't just stare hard problems in the face. We go out looking for them. Are you energized by attempting to do the impossible? We're looking for you.

At Relay Tx, our team is energized by the ultimate collaboration across each of our drug discovery disciplines.  Putting protein motion at the heart of drug discovery is a challenge, but we are confident that our team’s dedication and urgency will create opportunities that deeply impact the lives of the patients.  Our initial programs are focused on developing therapeutics in oncology.

Relay Therapeutics is a private company launched in 2016 with financing from Third Rock Ventures and an affiliate of D. E. Shaw Research.  To date the company has raised $520M from investors including Third Rock Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund, GV, Casdin Capital, BVF Partners, EcoR1 Capital, Foresite Capital, Perceptive Advisors, Tavistock Group and an affiliate of D.E. The opportunity

    • We are looking for a creative and self-motivated scientist with extensive experience in applying state of the art computational chemistry science to drug discovery programs from molecular target assessment & selection to development candidate selection.
    • You can expect a multi-faceted experience, as you will interact and collaborate cross-functionally with scientists across other drug discovery and non-clinical functions.  Come to Relay Tx and do the best work of your career yet!

Your role

    • You will carry out analyses that combine computational and experimental data to develop testable hypotheses that drive drug discovery programs
    • You will collaborate with scientists throughout the company to maximize the impact of computational efforts on projects
    • You will work collaboratively with external computational groups to develop and refine new computational methods
    • We’ll depend on you to develop new approaches to streamline and enhance computational workflows.

Your background

    • You’ve earned your Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Biophysics, or a related discipline
    • You’re a fresh Ph.D. grad or wrapping up a postdoc and ready to launch into industry.  Or maybe you’ve spent several years in industry – which will be helpful
    • You bring demonstrated expertise applying a wide variety of modern computational chemistry methods
    • You have demonstrated expertise in structure-based drug design
    • Are you fluent in Python? You're speaking our language!
    • You’re a natural when it comes to working in a Unix/Linux environment
    • If you’ve dabbled in QM, this will be a big plus but not a requirement
    • You're an articulate, open communicator with the ability to analyze, interpret and present data in a clear manner
    • You’re a team player first, but you’re also someone who can easily flex to work independently to conduct research
    • You are comfortable with — and can thrive in — an environment that is constantly changing
    • You are committed to building an energetic, collaborative, and open company culture and to contributing to the company’s success
