Scientist I, Structural Biology at Revolution Medicines
Redwood City, CA, US

Revolution Medicines is a clinical-stage precision oncology company focused on developing novel targeted therapies to inhibit frontier targets in RAS-addicted cancers.  The company’s R&D pipeline comprises RAS(ON) Inhibitors designed to suppress diverse oncogenic variants of RAS proteins, and RAS Companion Inhibitors for use in combination treatment strategies. As a new member of the Revolution Medicines team, you will join other outstanding scientists in a tireless commitment to patients with cancers harboring mutations in the RAS signaling pathway.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Scientist I to join the Structural Biology (X-Ray Crystallography/CryoEM) team to support multiple oncology therapeutic programs. The ideal candidate will have previous hands-on experience in the acquisition and analysis of structure data from X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM. They will apply their expertise in protein purification to form compound-driven complexes, identify and optimize crystallization/CryoEM conditions with the aim of determining high-resolution structural information to drive small molecule design.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute experiments with the aim of determining small molecule-driven multi-protein complex structures by CryoEM or X-ray crystallography

  • Clearly articulate structural information to a multidisciplinary audience (Chemist, Computation Chemist, Biologist, Biochemists, Project Teams) to drive rational drug design

  • Develop a broad understanding of other disciplines involved in drug discovery

  • Maintain excellent record-keeping and communication among internal and external colleagues

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • PhD in structural biology or protein biochemistry or a related scientific discipline with 0-2 years of post-doctoral drug discovery experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

  • Hands-on experience and expertise in CryoEM sample and grid preparation, map generation and structure solution

  • Strong track record of solving challenging CryoEM problems such as preferred orientation, small proteins, modeling into low-resolution maps, or iterative rounds of protein optimization

  • Hands-on experience and expertise in protein crystallization, crystal optimization and harvesting for data collection.

  • Hands-on experience and expertise in gene construct design, expression and purification of recombinant proteins

  • Experience with orthogonal biophysical methods to characterize protein quality and purity (SEC-MALS, DLS, thermal shift assay)

  • Excellent written, verbal communication, interpersonal and organization skills

  • Conscientious team-player interested in a fast-paced biotech environment.

Preferred Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Experience with biophysical characterization such as MS, SPR, NMR a plus.

  • Experience with protein-protein complexes including antibodies/Fabs, molecular glues, PROTACs, etc.

The expected salary range for this role is $118,000 to $143,000. An individual’s position within the range may be influenced by multiple factors, including skills and experience in role, overall performance, individual impact and contributions, tenure, and market dynamics. Base salary is one part of the overall total rewards program at RevMed, which includes competitive cash compensation, robust equity awards, strong benefits, and significant learning and development opportunities.
