The Vice President, Biology will be responsible for all areas related to research biology and pharmacology across multiple therapeutic areas. The candidate will drive scientific strategy, oversee research programs, and advance our pipeline of novel therapies. The VP will contribute to all stages of small molecule drug discovery and development including target ID and validation, lead discovery and optimization through IND, and transition to early clinical development. This role will report to the Chief Scientific Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction for all biology programs across multiple therapeutic areas, aligning with the company’s overall scientific and business objectives.
- Guide the overall research portfolio from pre-discovery target identification and validation to early clinical development to treat unmet medical needs.
- Oversee design, execution and interpretation of biological experimental approaches to support all phases of pre-clinical development for all programs.
- Lead, mentor, and collaborate with a cross-functional team of talented scientists, clinicians, and staff to drive excellence in research and drug development.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards in all research activities, including data management, documentation, and reporting.
- Effectively communicate scientific findings, strategies, and progress to stakeholders, senior management, and external audiences through presentations, publications, and conferences.
- Manage the research budget and biological resources efficiently to optimize productivity and deliver results in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership, strategic oversight, resource management, and organizational framework to ensure timely decision making on projects.
- Identify, support, manage and develop talent among team; act as a resource and mentor to team members by providing guidance, instruction, feedback and ongoing coaching; encourage visionary thinking. Value the advancement of our programs and our people.
- Preserve and promote current model of participative decision making in an organization where siloes are nonexistent and discouraged.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of biotech experience as an independent investigator focused on therapeutic discovery and development for grievous illnesses e.g. cancer, inflammation, metabolic disease.
- Strong leadership and management skills with experience in building and leading high-performing teams and ability to work within a matrixed structure to influence programs.
- Strategic mindset to translate scientific vision into actionable plans and deliverables.
- Proven track record of successfully advancing therapeutic programs from discovery through early clinical development stages.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through others and develop emerging leaders.
- Outstanding interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work productively and collaboratively with external partners/collaborators.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- A demonstrated ability to think logically and critically and to develop innovative approaches to answering complex biological questions.
- Extensive publication record
Education:
- PhD and postdoctoral studies in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
* The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $300,000 to $320,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Terremoto Biosciences, is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
